NCAAB: No. 3 Iowa State posts wire-to-wire win vs. No. 25 Baylor

Keshon Gilbert scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished five assists as No. 3 Iowa State pulled away from No. 25 Baylor 74-55 in a Big 12 Conference showdown Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

Milan Momcilovic added 15 points for Iowa State (12-1, 2-0 Big 12), which won its ninth in a row and improved to 8-0 at home. Curtis Jones finished with 14 points on 6-for-13 shooting.

Jeremy Roach scored 16 points to lead Baylor (9-4, 1-1), whose four-game winning streak ended. Josh Ojianwuna scored 13 and Robert Wright III had 10 despite missing 13 of 17 shots. Ojianwuna also supplied 10 rebounds and three steals, and Norchad Omier added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Iowa State never trailed, shot 49 percent (24 of 49) from the field and 47.6 percent (10 of 21) from 3-point range. Baylor shot 29.7 percent (19 of 64) overall and 24.1 percent (7 of 29) from distance.

The Bears also were beaten on the glass 42-35 by the Cyclones.

Baylor pulled within 50-38 with 10:41 to play after a dunk by Ojianwuna and a pair of free throws by V.J. Edgecombe.

The Cyclones responded with an 11-0 run to put the score out of reach.

Joshua Jefferson made one of two free throws to start the run. Brandton Chatfield followed with a jump shot and Momcilovic sank a 3-pointer.

After two more free throws by Chatfield and a 3-pointer by Jones, Iowa State extended its lead to 61-38 with 6:56 remaining.

Roach finally stopped the run with a 3-pointer, but Baylor still trailed by 20 with 6:40 to go.

Iowa State led 33-25 at the half.

The Cyclones jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first 94 seconds and established a double-digit advantage just under five minutes into the game. After a steal by Jones on the defensive end, Gilbert made a layup to put Iowa State on top 18-8 with 13:25 left in the first half.

The Bears trailed by 12 before cutting the deficit to eight thanks to a layup by Roach and a jump shot by Wright in the final minute of the first half.
