Tre White paired 20 points with 13 rebounds and Darryn Peterson returned from injury to score 17 and lead No. 21 Kansas to an 80-60 nonconference win over Missouri on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.

The Jayhawks (7-3) used a 23-3 run that started in the first half to build a 44-26 lead early in the second half.

The Tigers (8-2) did not manage to get closer than 12 in the final 11 minutes.

Mark Mitchell led the Tigers with 21 points.

Peterson, who had missed the past seven games with a hamstring injury, only played 23 minutes. The star freshman came out with 11:16 to go and a trainer worked on his right leg for the rest of the second half.

Bryson Tiller scored 13 points for the Jayhawks and Melvin Council Jr. had eight assists.

Kansas’ big run started when Peterson, who had 12 in the first half, tied the game 23-23 with two free throws with 3:52 left. Flory Bidunga then dunked a pass from Jamari McDowell and added a pair of free throws.

Mitchell slowed the run when he nailed a jumper for the Tigers, but Peterson hit a jumper with 1:32 left for a 30-25 Kansas lead.

Tiller blocked Mitchell’s late layup attempt and Council grabbed the loose ball and dished to White, who took a peek at the clock and pulled up to nail a 3-pointer with one second left that extended the Jayhawks’ lead to eight.

The Tigers struggled early, missing their first four shots to fall behind 7-1.

T.O. Barrett started a 6-0 run with a layup with 14:16 to go in the first half. Mitchell followed with a pair of layups to give Missouri an 11-9 lead.

The Tigers grabbed their largest lead of the half when Annor Boateng dunked and Shawn Phillips Jr. scored on a layup to make it 18-14 Missouri with 9:33 left.
