Louisville postponed the scheduled rivalry game with Kentucky on Wednesday due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Cardinals’ program.

Both teams said in statements Monday morning that they would attempt to reschedule the annual matchup. But the Cardinals are on indefinite pause of all team activities with multiple positive tests.

Only center Malik Williams, typically a starter, was not available Saturday when Louisville dropped an 82-72 decision to Western Kentucky.

Kentucky said it will seek a replacement opponent to play either Wednesday or Thursday.

The Wildcats also scrambled for a substitute foe Saturday. When Ohio State entered COVID-19 protocols for a scheduled game in Las Vegas, Kentucky was able to instead play North Carolina in Saturday’s CBS Sports Classic. Kentucky beat the Tar Heels, 98-69.

Kentucky and Louisville are 30 minutes apart. They’ve played every season since the 1981-82 season.

Kentucky leads the overall series, 37-17.
