NCAAB: Keegan Murray scores 24 as Iowa routs Longwood

Keegan Murray scored 22 of his game-high 24 points in the first half and Iowa rolled to a 106-73 opening-night win over visiting Longwood in Iowa City, Iowa, on Tuesday.

Jordan Bohannon added 18 points, all on 3-point shots, Kris Murray had 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Patrick McCaffery chipped in 11 for the Hawkeyes.

Keegan Murray, who averaged 7.2 points last season, hit 8-of-10 shots, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range and made all five of his free throws. He added seven rebounds in 17 minutes.

Transfer Isaiah Wilkins scored 19 points in his Longwood debut. He hit 7-of-13 field-goal attempts, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and added eight rebounds.

Leslie Nkereuwem added 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting for the Lancers. Justin Hill had 10 points and six assists.

Iowa shot 55.4 percent (36-of-65) from the field and made 45.5 percent (15-of-33) of their 3-point attempts and 19-of-22 free throws. Longwood shot 35.1 percent (26-for-74) from the field and 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from 3-point range.

Keegan Murray’s 3-pointer gave Iowa an early 9-0 lead.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Joe Toussaint and Bohannon capped a 14-0 run that made it 23-3 with 13:58 left in the first half.

A Keegan Murray 3-pointer with 6:48 to go started an 11-0 run and Murray’s two free throws at the 3:14 mark gave the Hawkeyes their biggest lead of the half, 53-20, before Longwood closed the half with a 9-3 burst.

Iowa shot 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the field in the half, including 50 percent (8-of-16) from deep. They outrebounded Longwood 23-14 and picked up 14 fast-break points to none for the Lancers.

Back-to-back treys by Bohannon early in the second half pushed the Iowa lead to 71-32.

Midway through the half, Jordan Perkins hit a trey that capped a 7-0 Longwood burst and cut the deficit to 84-53.

The Hawkeyes emptied their bench and the lead stayed in low 30-point range over the final 10 minutes.
