Four-star forward prospect Jett Howard said Wednesday that he will play at Michigan for his father.

The son of Michigan coach Juwan Howard also joins his older brother, Jace, as a member of the Wolverines.

The 6-foot-7 Howard, who is ranked No. 37 in the 2022 class on the 247Sports composite, said he was leaning to selecting Tennessee earlier this week before opting for Michigan.

“It was a tough decision because I was seriously looking at Tennessee,” Jett Howard said during his announcement. “But it was just the family atmosphere obviously because of my dad. I also feel I will have a good opportunity to play right away. I honestly like how everybody is treated the same around the campus.

“I paid attention to the little things when it came to this recruiting process and that stood out along with the culture and environment of the program.”

Jett Howard’s other finalists were Georgetown and North Carolina State. Others he strongly considered were Florida, LSU and Vanderbilt.

Jett Howard said he is looking forward to playing for his 48-year-old dad, who was a star on the Michigan “Fab Five” teams of the early 1990s and played 19 NBA seasons. Juwan Howard is 42-17 in two seasons as coach of the Wolverines.

“Honestly, it will be great because we have always had a smooth relationship that is never forced,” Jett Howard said. “Growing up, he was always on the road because of him being in the league, but when he would come home it was awesome. But since I have gotten older he has been there every step of the way.

“He helps me with different aspects of the game and always gives me tips on how to get better. As I continue to get older the stuff he has been saying has been starting to click.”

Jett Howard currently plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

In addition to Howard, Michigan’s 2022 recruiting class includes center Tarris Reed Jr. (No. 39 in the composite), point guard Dug McDaniel (No. 61) and forward Gregg Glenn (108). It is currently ranked third nationally behind Duke and Ohio State.
