Former San Diego State forward Keshad Johnson announced Saturday evening that he is transferring to Arizona.

Johnson played four seasons with the Aztecs and was a two-year starter. He had a team-best 14 points when San Diego State lost to UConn 76-59 in last month’s NCAA Tournament final.

The 6-foot-7 Johnson strongly considered Kentucky during the process. Early this month, he said Southern California, Oklahoma and Texas Tech were also part of his final five.

“Keshad brings a lot of experience and versatility to our team from the start,” Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd said in a statement. “He scored 14 points in the national championship game last season and was able to impact the game at both ends of the floor, something that is extremely valuable to any team.

“His leadership and commitment to the team contribute to winning at a high level. We couldn’t be more excited that Keshad and his family are part of our family.”

Johnson averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds last season for San Diego State, a balanced squad that made a stunning run through the NCAA tourney to reach the school’s first Final Four. He shot 53.2 percent from the field but made just 26.2 percent from 3-point range.

After the season, Johnson declared for the NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility.

Johnson had averages of 5.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 113 games (71 starts) for the Aztecs.
