Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee, ESPN reported on Friday.

Williams injured his kneecap and ligaments during Portland’s 112-100 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. He is expected to undergo the procedure early next week and be recovered for the start of the 2024-25 season, per the report.

Williams, 26, was acquired from the Boston Celtics with Malcolm Brogdon in the Jrue Holiday trade on Oct. 1. He has averaged 6.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in six games off the bench this season.

A second-team All-NBA Defensive selection after the 2021-22 season, Williams has averaged 7.3 points and 6.9 rebounds in 215 career games (97 starts) with the Celtics and Trail Blazers. He was selected by Boston with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
