Toronto FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson registered his 100th career MLS shutout in a 0-0 draw with the Philadelphia Union on a rainy Wednesday night in Chester, Pa.

Johnson was forced to make just one save for Toronto (7-7-2, 23 points).

Goalie Oliver Semmle made three stops for the Union (4-4-7, 19 points), who snapped a franchise-record, four-match home losing streak.

Both teams narrowly missed solid chances to score in the opening minutes of the second half.

Toronto’s Federico Bernardeschi slipped a shot from a sharp angle on the right wing just past the far post in the 49th minute.

Two minutes later, Philadelphia’s Alejandro Bedoya went up for a header from the top of the 6-yard box that forced Johnson to make a diving save.

Semmle dropped to his knees to make a routine stop on a 10-yard shot by Bernardeschi in the 81st minute, and he deflected an attempt by Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty from the right side of the penalty area a minute later.

Toronto FC outshot the Union 6-5 in a scoreless first half, though the teams combined for just one attempt on target.

The visitors had the best chances before the break.

Toronto’s Derrick Etienne Jr. had a pair of shots near the middle of the first half, including a 25-yard blast in the 23rd minute that was deflected just wide of the right post. He also had a 10-yard attempt from the middle of the penalty box just four minutes later, but Semmle made a diving save to his right.

In the 42nd minute, Toronto intercepted a pass at midfield and quickly worked the ball down the left wing. A cross found Bernardeschi about 5 yards out from the far post, but Bernardeschi put a left-footed shot off the top of the crossbar and over the net.

Philadelphia’s best scoring opportunity of the first half came in the 44th minute, as Kai Wagner curled a left-footed shot from about 25 yards out just wide of the right post.
