The Colorado Rapids acquired Brazilian defender Rafael Santos from Orlando City SC on Friday.

In exchange, Orlando will receive up to $325,000 in general allocation money and also will retain a sell-on fee.

Santos, 27, tallied two goals and three assists in 75 MLS matches (52 starts) since joining the Lions in 2023.

“Rafael is an experienced and dynamic attacking fullback who brings quality on both sides of the ball,” Rapids sporting director Fran Taylor said. “He will strengthen our group as we continue to make a push for the playoffs. We are excited to welcome him to Colorado.”

Orlando gets $125,000 in 2025 GAM and an additional $200,000 if certain performance-based metrics are met.

“We’re grateful to Rafa for his dedication, professionalism and contributions to the club both on and off the pitch during his time with us,” Orlando GM and sporting director Ricardo Moreira said. “We wish him all the best in this next stage of his career.”
