The San Jose Earthquakes acquired goalkeeper Daniel from Brazil’s Internacional on a permanent transfer.

Terms of the deal announced Saturday were not disclosed, but the 28-year-old Brazilian is signed through the 2024 season with a club option for 2025.

Daniel recorded 37 shutouts and allowed just 74 goals in 83 matches with Internacional from 2017-22.

“Daniel comes to San Jose with an impressive pedigree from a top league and club in South America,” Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch said. “… We believe his quality will add a different level of competition to the goalkeeper position.”

Daniel is expected to compete with JT Marcinkowski, 25, for the starting spot.

The Quakes open the 2023 MLS regular season on Feb. 25 at Atlanta United.
