New York City FC extended midfielder James Sands’ loan to Germany’s FC St. Pauli through June 30, 2026, the MLS club announced Tuesday.

Sands, 24, joined the Bundesliga’s St. Pauli in January and appeared in seven matches before sustaining a season-ending leg injury.

A homegrown player for NYCFC, Sands tallied one goal and four assists in 120 MLS matches (116 starts) from 2017-24.

He was named the club’s defensive MVP in 2024 and helped New York City win the MLS Cup in 2021.
