Noah Eile scored the lone goal to lead the host New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 win over CF Montreal in Harrison, N.J., on Saturday.

The Red Bulls (4-3-3, 15 points) improved to 4-1-1 on their home pitch this season.

Montreal (0-7-3, 3 points) was shut out for a third straight match and fell to 0-6-2 on the road.

New York finished a scoreless first half strong and continued that into the second. But the Red Bulls could not beat Montreal’s defense nor goalkeeper Sebastian Breza.

In the 49th minute, Cameron Harper tried to send a shot on net from just above the 6-yard box but was denied by the foot of Montreal defender George Campbell. Moments later, midfielder Victor Loturi slid to get his foot in the way of Peter Stroud’s quick shot from just inside the box, deflecting it away.

In the 58th minute, Breza denied New York when he dived to his left to get his hands on Wiki Carmona’s attempt from the top of the box.

Dante Sealy had a chance to get Montreal on the board two minutes later but just missed the far post.

The Red Bulls finally broke through in the 67th minute when Eile headed a corner kick inside the left post for his first MLS tally.

Montreal controlled the play early, owning nearly 62 percent of the touches through the first 15 minutes while attempting four shots and notching three on target, compared to none for the hosts. The Canadian side had its chances, pressing New York and intercepting long balls by the Red Bulls.

After managing just one notable rush and opportunity in the first 15 minutes, New York started to pick up the pace as the half progressed.

In the 17th minute, Harper caught up to a long pass for a breakaway to draw Breza to the top of the box, but missed wide past the right post. The forward created another opportunity in the 33rd minute, sending a cross for Emil Forsberg but the pair couldn’t connect and the ball rolled just past the far post.
