CF Montreal exercised the permanent transfer option for Joaquin Torres and signed the midfielder to a two-year contract on Thursday.

On loan this season from Newell’s Old Boys of Argentina, Torres will remain with the MLS club through 2023 with two option years in 2024 and 2025.

“We are pleased with Joaquin’s transfer to the Club,” Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard said in a news release. “… Joaquin has adapted well since his arrival last winter. We are happy with what he has done so far this season and we are confident for the future. He is a player who is motivated to be in Montreal and he feels good at the Club.”

Torres, 24, has four goals and five assists in 24 matches (18 starts) this season. He ranks third on the team with 33 shots.

Montreal (11-10-9, 42 points) currently sits in sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference after Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw at Orlando City SC.
