FC Dallas signed defender Omar Gonzalez to a one-year deal with a club option for 2025 on Wednesday.

Gonzalez, 35, is a 15-year professional who has won three MLS Cup titles during his 12 Major League Soccer seasons (2011, 2012, 2014). He was also named to the MLS Best XI four times (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014).

The Dallas native returns to his hometown after spending the past two seasons with New England. He played in 18 regular-season games for the Revolution in 2023.

Prior to New England, the 6-foot-5 Gonzalez was with Toronto FC from 2019-2021 following four years with Liga MX sides C.F. Pachuca and Atlas F.C.

He was originally selected third overall by the L.A. Galaxy in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, going on to appear in 223 matches over seven seasons with the club. Gonzalez also has 52 caps while playing for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

“I am extremely excited and proud to be joining FC Dallas after leaving the area at the age of 15,” Gonzalez said. “When the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at the chance to come back home.

“This is a full circle moment. When I broke the news to my family in our group chat, I said to them ‘the kid is coming home a man.’ It is special to be reunited with them in Dallas. I am thrilled to join the organization and to work together to put a star over the FC Dallas crest.”
