FC Cincinnati acquired Czech midfielder Pavel Bucha and signed him to a deal through the 2026 season plus a club option for 2027, the team announced Wednesday.

Cincinnati landed Bucha via transfer from FC Viktoria Plzen of the Czech First League.

Bucha, who turns 26 in March, spent the past six seasons with Viktoria Plzen and had 27 goals and 21 assists in 163 appearances.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Pavel to the club,” FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright said in a news release. “His understanding of the game, ability to cover ground, and experience at the top levels of European soccer make him a valuable addition. He’s also an exceptional teammate who will fit seamlessly into the group.”

Bucha helped Viktoria Plzen win the 2021-22 Czech First League title.

Now he’s looking to help Cincinnati make a run at the MLS crown. Cincinnati won the Supporters Shield for having the best regular-season record last season but lost in the Eastern Conference finals to eventual champion Columbus Crew.

“I am proud to finally be a part of this team,” Bucha said in the news release. “I feel great and very welcome here, and I am excited about working with this group of players and coaches. I cannot wait to get this season started.”

Cincinnati opens the 2024 season at home on Feb. 25 against Toronto FC.
