After both clubs have been off in the previous two weeks due to the international break, the New England Revolution and FC Cincinnati will meet Saturday night in Foxborough, Mass.

FC Cincinnati (9-5-3, 30 points) reside in second place in the Eastern Conference despite failing to record a win since May 14 at Toronto FC. Cincinnati is 0-2-2 in its last four matches and is coming off a disappointing 2-1 home loss to D.C. United on May 31.

“We know we need to do more. We all know that this is not where we should be, and this is like a wake-up call for us, for everyone,” FC Cincinnati midfielder Obinna Nwobodo said. “We are too good to be in this situation. We need to make it right.”

In addition to losing to D.C. United at home, Cincinnati squandered a two-goal lead against FC Dallas at home three days earlier before settling for a 3-3 draw.

Saturday will be the second match this season between Cincinnati and New England, with the former posting a 1-0 victory at home on April 5.

The Revolution (6-4-5, 23 points), though, are undefeated in nine matches (5-0-4) since that match. Saturday will mark their first of three straight home matches after three consecutive MLS regular-season contests and a U.S. Open Cup match on the road.

“We understand, if you look at how tight the table is, if we win a couple games here, we’re going to shoot up into not just a playoff position, but perhaps the top four if we take care of business in the month of June,” New England coach Caleb Porter said.

The Revolution will look to avoid a regular-season sweep against FC Cincinnati, an opponent that hasn’t swept them since Cincinnati joined MLS in 2019.
