The Columbus Crew announced the transfer Monday of defender Milos Degenek to Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but multiple reports said Columbus received a $600,000 transfer fee.

Degenek, 29, appeared in 40 MLS matches (34 starts) with the Crew over the past two seasons.

“Milos has been a solid professional over the past 18 months, and for him this was an opportunity to move closer to family, which was something he desired,” Columbus general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said. “We appreciate Milos’ contributions to the Black & Gold, and we wish him the best in his return to Serbia.”

Degenek, who was born in Croatia and competes internationally for Australia, previously played for Red Star Belgrade from 2018-22.
