The Columbus Crew re-signed goalkeeper Eloy Room through the 2023 season with a club option for 2024.

Financial terms of the deal announced Friday were not disclosed.

Room, 32, has started 59 regular season games and registered 15 shutouts since joining the Crew midway through the 2019 season. He had a 1.30 goals-against average, seven clean sheets and 83 saves in 30 starts in 2021.

“We are thrilled that Eloy will be part of the Columbus Crew the next two seasons,” team president and general Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release. “We signed Eloy in 2019 because of his well-established international experience and felt he would be a great addition to our defense.

“Since joining us, Eloy has not only performed on the field, but he has also bought into the values of the Crew to become a veteran voice and leader in the locker room. We look forward to continued success with him as our goalkeeper.”

Room helped the Crew capture the 2020 MLS Cup with a 3-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders in the final.

The Curacao native will continue to occupy an international roster spot for Columbus.
