The Columbus Crew re-signed veteran forward Erik Hurtado for the 2022 season with a team option for 2023 on Thursday.

Hurtado, 31, returns to the Black and Gold for a second season after the Crew acquired him from CF Montreal in July. He appeared in nine matches (three starts) for the Crew.

“We’re pleased to welcome Erik back to the Crew for a second season,” Crew general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a release. “He has 10 years of experience in our League, and he provides us with options up top and on the wing. Erik’s dedication and hard work throughout preseason have been evident, and we’re excited for him to continue his tenure as a Crew player.”

For his MLS career, Hurtado has 19 goals and 11 assists in regular-season action since being selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft in 2013 by Vancouver.
