Charlotte FC midfielder Brandt Bronico received a one-GAME suspension and an undisclosed fine from Major League Soccer on Wednesday for a serious foul during sATURDAY’S game against the New York Red Bulls.

Bronico will serve his suspension on Saturday when Charlotte (1-3-1, five points) visits Toronto FC (1-1-3, six points).

Bronico challenged Red Bulls midfielder Omir Fernandez for the ball near midfield and stepped on his opponent’s lower right leg during the 23rd minute of the 1-1 draw between the teams.

The play was reviewed under MLS Disciplinary Committee Parameter 3. It allows the committee to administer punishment should it feel the offense “is egregious in nature, and/or it must act to protect player safety, and/or it must protect the integrity of the game.”

Bronico, 27, has yet to record a goal or an assist in five games (all starts) this season. He has three goals and 11 assists in 105 career games (77 starts) with Chicago Fire FC and Charlotte FC.
