Three months before their first MLS training camp, Charlotte FC acquired midfielder Jordy Alcivar from Ecuador’s LDU Quito and signed him to a four-year deal.
Earlier Monday, Charlotte FC obtained Alcivar’s rights in a trade with FC Cincinnati for $100,000 in general allocation money.
Alcivar, 22, has made 83 appearances for LDU Quito, the club he grew up rooting for in Ecuador. He will remain with the team through the end of 2021.
Known as a more defensive midfielder, he has five goals and six assists this season.
“He brings balance to our midfield and can control the game with and without the ball at his feet,” Charlotte FC sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “He comes from a well-respected league in South America and is very experienced for a player of his age.”
Alcivar becomes the club’s eighth player, joining defenders Guzman Corujo, Christian Fuchs, Adam Armour and Jan Sobocinski, and midfielders Brandt Bronico, Sergio Ruiz and Riley McGree.
FC Charlotte will make their MLS debut in 2022, becoming the 28th team in the league. They follow the 2021 debut of Austin FC, who are 7-18-4 in a bumpy inaugural season and already eliminated from playoff consideration.
