The New York Yankees acquired right-hander Colten Brewer from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations on Thursday.

Brewer, 30, will be added to the Yankees’ 40-man roster via an assignment clause.

With the Rays this spring on a minor league deal, Brewer did not give up an earned run in 9 1/3 innings (eight appearances). He also had 15 strikeouts but still was assigned to minor league camp on Wednesday.

Brewer has 81 games of major league experience (four starts) over parts of four seasons with the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox. He has not appeared in the major leagues since 2021, when he pitched in just one game with the Red Sox.

Brewer, who was in the Yankees’ farm system in 2017, was a member of the Kansas City Royals organization last season, making 36 appearances at Triple-A Omaha with a 4.76 ERA.
