Struggling on offense amid a six-game losing streak, the San Francisco Giants are in a scramble at third base after Matt Chapman went on the injured list and replacement Casey Schmitt also sustained an injury.

Chapman, 32, went on the 10-day IL on Friday with right-hand inflammation that contributed to no homers and just two extra-base hits over his past 14 games. He is batting .229 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 96 games.

Schmitt, 26, took over at third on Friday but was hit by a pitch on his right forearm and underwent X-rays that were negative. He is expected to miss multiple games. He is batting .251 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 61 games.

San Francisco is expected to turn to Christian Koss for playing time at third. Koss, 27, is hitting .265 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 51 games since making his major league debut on April 1.
