The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso agreed on a one-year, $7.4 million contract on Tuesday, multiple reports said.

With the short-term deal, the Mets avoided arbitration with their young slugger.

The Mets also reached a one-year, $10.2 million deal with closer Edwin Diaz, who also celebrated his 28th birthday Tuesday.

Alonso, 27, has racked up 106 home runs and 249 RBIs while batting .256 in three seasons (370 games) with the Mets. He won National League Rookie of the Year in 2019 after leading the majors with 53 homers.

In 2021, Alonso added 37 homers, 27 doubles and 94 RBIs with a career-best .262 batting average over 152 games.

Last week, Alonso survived a car accident in which he said another car ran a red light, “T-boned” him and flipped his car over three times. Alonso was driving to the Mets’ spring training facility at Port St. Lucie, Fla., at the time.

He did not sustain any injuries and has played in one spring training game since.

Diaz went 5-6 with a 3.45 ERA and 32 saves in 63 appearances in 2021. The right-hander enters his fourth season with the Mets after being dealt to New York in the trade that also sent Robinson Cano to the Mets and Jay Bruce and Jarred Kelenic — among others — to Seattle.
