MLB: Rangers activate All-Stars Josh Jung, Adolis Garcia from IL

The Texas Rangers activated All-Stars Josh Jung and Adolis Garcia from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday’s home game against the Boston Red Sox.

Jung, who missed six weeks with a broken thumb, was in the Rangers’ lineup for Monday’s game, starting at third base and batting fifth. Garcia was added to the lineup just before the game to play right field and bat sixth.

In corresponding moves, catcher Sam Huff and infielder Jonathan Ornelas were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Jung suffered a fractured left thumb on Aug. 6 and underwent surgery three days later. Jung, a rookie, was hurt fielding a line drive off the bat of Miami Marlins’ Jorge Soler.

At the time of his injury, Jung led AL rookies in home runs, RBIs, runs (70), extra-base hits (47) and total bases (209). He was considered the leading candidate to win AL Rookie of the Year honors.

The 25-year-old started 107 of the team’s first 112 games at third base, including 33 straight.

Garcia suffered a patellar tendon strain in his right knee and was placed on the IL on Sept. 7. He was hurt the day before during a game against the Houston Astros, while leaping in an unsuccessful attempt to rob Michael Brantley of a home run.

Garcia is batting .244 this season with a career-high 34 home runs, 26 doubles and 100 RBIs in 135 games.
