The Texas Rangers expect All-Star third baseman Josh Jung to miss eight to 10 weeks following surgery on his fractured right wrist.

The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that the repairs were “a little bit more involved than appeared” on the initial X-rays.

Jung, 26, was hit by a pitch in Monday’s 9-3 road win against the Tampa Bay Rays. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

He was an All-Star and finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2023 despite missing 40 games, most of them because of a fractured thumb. He posted a .266/.315/.467 slash line with 23 homers, 70 RBIs and 75 runs in 122 games.

Jung also batted .308 with three home runs, eight RBIs and 13 runs in 17 playoff games in the Rangers’ run to their first World Series championship.

Starting his second full season, Jung was on a tear in the early going, batting .412 with a 1.415 OPS at the time of his injury. He has two home runs and six RBIs.
