MLB: Pirates RHP Jared Jones (elbow discomfort) sidelined

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones will miss his final Spring Training start with right elbow discomfort with no estimate on when he can start throwing again.

Jones, slated to be the Pirates’ No. 2 starter this season, reported discomfort after a bullpen session on Sunday. The team is awaiting a second opinion after Jones underwent medical imaging.

“He just wasn’t recovering as we would like him to, he would like himself, too,” senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk told reporters. “We’re still in the process of learning as much as we possibly can. We don’t have an official diagnosis, don’t have an official prognosis at this time, so we’re still in the early learning stages of this for Jared.”

Jones, 23, went 6-8 with a 4.14 ERA in 22 starts last season in his rookie campaign.

He was 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four spring starts, striking out 17 in 12 innings pitched.
