The Washington Nationals postponed the second game of their Friday doubleheader against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies to Saturday night as the remnants of Hurricane Ian reached the nation’s capital.

A Saturday doubleheader was originally on the docket. Washington and Philadelphia moved one of the Saturday games up to Friday when the forecast projected storms would hit the Washington region on Saturday.

Weather permitting, the Nationals and Phillies will play a doubleheader Saturday with games at 1:05 and 7:05 p.m. ET.

The Phillies (84-72) won Friday afternoon’s series opener 5-1, ending a five-game losing streak as they attempt to solidify their first playoff berth since 2011.

The Phillies announced that Kyle Gibson would start Game 1 of the twin bill and Noah Syndergaard would take the mound for Game 2. Syndergaard was slated to start Friday night’s game.

Washington (54-102) planned to start Tommy Romero in Friday’s nightcap. The Nationals’ pitching plans for Saturday had yet to be announced.
