Alec Bohm collected both RBIs for the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night, including the tiebreaking, 10th-inning sacrifice fly that lifted the visitors to a 2-1 win over the New York Mets.
The Mets saw their six-game winning streak end, and they fell to 15-3 in their past 18 games. The Phillies have won eight of their past nine games and 13 of their past 15.
The Phillies scored the winning run without a hit in the top of the 10th against Mychal Givens (6-3).
Automatic runner Bryson Stott went to third on a groundout by Rhys Hoskins. Bohm followed with a flyout to right. Stott tagged up and would have been out with an accurate throw by Starling Marte, but the one-hopper glanced off the glove of Tomas Nido as Stott slid across the plate.
Marte almost scored the winning run in similar fashion in the bottom of the ninth. He led off the inning with a double and went to third on a long flyout to center field by Francisco Lindor. Marte was thrown out at the plate by Philadelphia left fielder Matt Vierling while trying to score on Daniel Vogelbach’s fly ball.
Seranthony Dominguez (6-3) earned the win. David Robertson recorded his 16th save by stranding automatic runner Vogelbach at third in the 10th.
The Phillies took a quick lead against the Mets, who hadn’t trailed during their winning streak. Stott led off the game with a double and scored on a one-out single by Bohm.
The Mets tied the game in the second, when Pete Alonso drew a leadoff walk, went to third on a double by Darin Ruf and scored on Mark Canha’s sacrifice fly.
Stott had three hits for the Phillies while Nick Castellanos added two.
New York starter Max Scherzer and Philadelphia starter Ranger Suarez both pitched well in no-decisions.
Scherzer gave up one run on nine hits and walked none while striking out six over seven innings. He stranded five runners in the first two innings before allowing four hits — all singles — over his final five frames.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner has a 1.36 ERA in eight starts since returning from the injured list on July 5 and a 1.93 ERA overall in 102 2/3 innings this season.
Suarez allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings.
