The Washington Nationals signed veteran infielder Cesar Hernandez to a one-year deal Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old former Gold Glove winner’s deal is worth a reported $4 million with incentives.

Hernandez split last season between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox, hitting a career-high 21 homers to go along with a .232 batting average, 62 RBIs and 84 runs in 149 games.

He has been primarily a second baseman for most of his seven-year MLB career, making 142 starts there last season. He won his Gold Glove at second with Cleveland in 2020 but has also played shortstop, third base and the outfield.

Hernandez, who spent seven seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies before signing with the Indians in 2020, has a career .270 batting average with 70 homers and 335 RBIs in 1,039 games.

Washington is coming off a 65-97 record and a last-place finish in the National League East.
