The New York Mets reinstated first baseman Pete Alonso from the 10-day injured list on Sunday.

Alonso has been out since sustaining a bone bruise and a sprain of his left wrist after being hit by a fastball from Atlanta Braves right-hander Charlie Morton on June 7. He returned on Sunday after the team initially feared he could be sidelined for as much as three to four weeks.

Alonso declared himself a “full go” and said he would not be limited in his return to the lineup.

When asked when he felt that he could come back sooner than expected, Alonso said it was “around the fifth or sixth day when I was able to do everything freely and without any pain.”

“We always hoped it would be quick,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said of Alonso’s return. “Just felt good, the progression was such that a couple days ago we thought it could be a possibility. … Talking to him, we felt like he was going to be sooner rather than later, but we didn’t want to jump the gun.”

At the time of the injury, Alonso led the majors with 22 home runs and topped the National League with 49 RBIs in 62 games while batting .231. The two-time All-Star has 168 homers and 429 RBIs through 592 career games dating to 2019, when he was NL Rookie of the Year.

To make room for Alonso, the Mets optioned infielder Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Vientos, 23, is batting .178 with one homer and five RBIs in 16 games this season with New York.
