Billy Hamilton scored the game’s first run in the 10th inning Sunday afternoon as the visiting Miami Marlins salvaged a split of a four-game series by edging the New York Mets 2-0.
The Marlins have won eight of 11. The Mets fell to 6-4 this month.
Hamilton, who pinch-ran for Garrett Cooper as the automatic runner at second base to start the 10th, stole third on a 2-1 pitch to Jesus Aguilar and trotted home when the throw from catcher Tomas Nido sailed into left field.
Hamilton also scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by the Mets in the 10th inning of New York’s 5-4 win Saturday.
Tommy Hunter (0-1) struck out Aguilar before Jesus Sanchez singled. Sanchez went to second on a two-out single by Bryan De La Cruz and scored on Luke Williams’ single.
Richard Bleier (1-1) worked around a one-out error by shortstop Joey Wendle in the ninth. Tanner Scott earned his 12th save with a hitless 10th in which he whiffed Francisco Lindor, the potential winning run, for the final out.
Jon Berti had three hits — all off Mets starter Taijuan Walker — while Luis Guillorme singled three times against Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara.
Alcantara and Walker were otherwise dominant in tossing seven scoreless innings apiece.
Alcantara, a leading candidate to start for the National League in the All-Star Game on July 19, gave up six hits and walked one while striking out four in lowering his ERA to 1.73. He has thrown 19 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings and has tossed at least seven innings in 12 straight starts.
Walker, who made the NL All-Star team last year, surrendered three hits and walked one while striking out seven in reducing his ERA to 2.63.
Each starter allowed just one runner beyond second base. Walker plunked Wendle leading off the fourth before Berti singled. Wendle went to third on Cooper’s double-play grounder and was stranded there when Aguilar grounded out to short.
Brandon Nimmo led off the sixth by reaching on an error by third baseman Brian Anderson and Mark Canha walked before Nimmo advanced to third on Lindor’s double play. Alcantara ended the inning by retiring Pete Alonso on a pop-up.
