Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Genesis Cabrera and New York Mets righty Yohan Ramirez each received three-game suspensions and undisclosed fines from Major League Baseball on Sunday, one day after their actions in their respective games.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza also received a one-game ban and a fine as a result of Ramirez’s actions.

Both Cabrera and Ramirez are appealing their respective suspensions.

Cabrera exchanged words and shoved Tampa Bay’s Jose Caballero on Saturday, igniting a benches-clearing incident in the Blue Jays’ 5-1 loss to the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla. Cabrera was ejected.

“I will say it was more like the heat of the moment,” Cabrera said through an interpreter. “I mean, I think we all kind of overreact a little bit. … He kind of looked at me and I just react. … It’s part of the game sometimes, but it’s over with. It’s where it ends, right there.”

Ramirez was punished for throwing behind Rhys Hoskins of the Milwaukee Brewers during the top of the seventh inning of Saturday afternoon’s game in New York. He was ejected from the game.

“I was trying to throw my sinker inside and sometimes when I try to get it too in, the ball just runs,” Ramirez said through an interpreter, per the New York Post. “And with this type of weather I don’t have the grip that I am accustomed to having and at this point the ball just ran.”

Ramirez, 28, struck out one batter and did not allow a hit or run in one-third of an inning on Saturday. He is 6-4 with a 3.98 ERA and six saves in 103 relief appearances with the Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox and Mets.

Cabrera, 27, allowed one run on two hits in one inning of a no-decision on Saturday. He owns a 14-11 record with a 4.00 ERA in 204 career games (two starts) with the St. Louis Cardinals and Blue Jays.
