The San Francisco Giants put outfielder Mike Yastrzemski on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain.

The move was retroactive to Friday. He exited Thursday’s 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at historic Rickwood Field in the fourth inning and was seen leaving the field with a trainer.

Outfielder Luis Matos was recalled in a corresponding move.

With Yastrzemski’s absence and outfielder Michael Conforto struggling, Matos is expected to have an opportunity to get consistent time in the field.

Matos is coming off a 13-game stint at Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .321 with five home runs and a 1.075 OPS.

Matos, 22, has hit .243 with four home runs and 34 RBIs in 97 games with the Giants over the past two seasons.

Yastrzemski, 33, has a .239 career average with 95 home runs and 289 RBI in 621 games over six seasons with the Giants. He is hitting .224 through 67 games this season.

Also Saturday, third baseman David Villar was called up from Sacramento while IF/OF Tyler Fitzgerald returned to the River Cats.

Villar, 27, has played in 98 games over the past two seasons with the Giants, with 14 home runs, 36 RBIs and a .193 average.

Fitzgerald, 26, was batting .273 in 28 games in the big leagues this season with a home run and four RBIs.

The Giants also placed RHP Keaton Winn on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Winn gave up five runs in 2 2/3 innings in Thursday’s game at Rickwood Field. He is 3-8 on the season with a 7.16 ERA in 12 starts.
