The Los Angeles Dodgers placed All-Star infielder Max Muncy on the injured list Friday with an oblique strain and reinstated 15-year veteran Jason Heyward from the IL.

The Dodgers made a number of moves, among them sending center fielder James Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Outman finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting last season but was batting .147 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 36 games this season.

Miguel Vargas, who started last season as the Dodgers’ starting second baseman, was recalled from Triple-A, along with right-hander Ricky Vanasco. Left-hander Nick Ramirez also was optioned along with Outman.

Muncy, 33, was batting .223 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 40 games but was just 1-for-25 (.040) over his last seven games. In nine major league seasons, the last seven with the Dodgers, he is a career .227 hitter with 189 home runs and 517 RBIs in 887 games.

Heyward, 34, played in just four games before he went on the IL with a lower back injury. In 15 major league seasons, he is a career .258 season with 174 home runs and 683 RBIs in 1,707 games for the Atlanta Braves (2010-14), St. Louis Cardinals (2015), Chicago Cubs (2016-22) and Dodgers.

Vargas, 24, was batting .195 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 81 games last season before he was sent down. He was batting .295 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs in 39 games at Oklahoma City this season.

Vanasco, 25, made his major league debut with the Dodgers in April and had two scoreless innings in his only outing. Ramirez, 34, pitched 2 1/3 innings Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds and had a 3.86 ERA in six appearances for the Dodgers.
