Fnatic and top laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen have split up.

The organization announced Friday that it released Wunder to allow him to “explore new opportunities.”

Wunder, 24, joined Fnatic from G2 Esports in early 2022, and the team immediately placed third in the 2022 LEC Spring Split. Fnatic also qualified for the world championship but didn’t make it out of the group stage.

That preceded an underwhelming Winter 2023 split, with Fnatic posting a 2-7 record and finishing in ninth place. Afterward, Wunder hinted that his days with Fnatic might be over, tweeting on Feb. 6: “Pathetic split, I don’t know what the future brings or if you will see me again.”

He did not play in the 2023 Spring Split, with Fnatic finishing sixth.

The team wished him well in a statement.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with Wunder,” said Javier “Dardo” Zafra, the team director. “There are very few players with his natural talent for the game as well as such extensive experience which makes him a very special player. I can only wish him the best in the next steps in his career and I hope to see him soon back in the rift.”

Wunder, from Denmark, has been playing professionally since 2014 with teams that include G2 and Splyce.
