LOUD and PSG Talon won their opening matches on Tuesday in Group A action of the League of Legends World Championship play-in Round 1.

LOUD, from Brazil, topped Vietnam’s GAM Esports 2-0, winning in 27 minutes on blue and 40 minutes on red.

PSG, based in Hong Kong, also won in a sweep. They defeated Mexico’s Rainbow 7 in 29 minutes and 30 minutes, both on blue.

LOUD and PSG Talon will meet Thursday in a winner’s bracket match, while GAM and R7 will square off in an elimination round. The winner of the winner’s bracket contest automatically advances, while the two teams that wind up with 1-1 records will play in the decider round to determine the second seed from Group A.

In the openers of Group B action on Wednesday, CTBC Flying Oyster will play DetonatioN FocusMe, and Team BDS will clash with Team Whales.

In this play-in round, which runs through Saturday, eight teams are divided into two groups in a double elimination bracket. The top two teams in each group advance to play-in Round 2.

All matches in this round are best-of-three.

After the two-play-in rounds, the world championships advance to the Swiss stage and then the knockout stage. All rounds are being contested in venues in South Korea.

The knockout round will culminate with the grand final, to be played Nov. 19 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
