The League Championship Series (LCS) announced Tuesday that for the 2022 season, teams’ records from the Spring Split will reset and no longer carry over to the Summer Split.
That was just one of several format announcements LCS made, along with revealing that the 2022 season will begin Jan. 14 with the LCS Lock In Tournament.
The Spring Split will start Feb. 5, with the split’s playoff concluding April 24. The break following Spring Split will be extended by one week before the Summer Split begins June 18.
LCS also will return to two-day match weeks rather than three, with occasional “Super Weeks” that carry five additional games on the schedule. Matches will also feature earlier start times to better accommodate fans on the East Coast and in Europe, according to the league.
“We believe that reducing the number of regular season games will help combat player burnout while delivering more meaningful matches for our fans,” read a post on Riot Games’ esports website.
The Spring Split grand final match is slated to be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, home of the NFL’s Texans, which would mark LCS’s first live event since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
