LOL: Gen.G reach First Stand Tournament knockout stage

Gen.G swept LYON in the Group B upper-bracket final Thursday and advanced to the First Stand Tournament knockout stage in Sao Paulo.

Also on Thursday, JD Gaming eliminated LOUD with a 3-0 sweep in the Group B lower-bracket semifinal. JD Gaming and LYON will face off in Friday’s lower-bracket final, with the winner moving on to the knockout stage.

The $1 million League of Legends competition began with eight teams competing at Riot Games Arena in the first cross-regional tournament of the season. They were drawn into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage on Saturday and Sunday. Bilibili Gaming has advanced from Group A.

All matches are best-of-five. The champions take home $250,000.

On Thursday, Gen.G followed a 25-minute win against Lyon on red with 26- and 25-minute wins on blue. Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon of South Korea fueled the winners with 15 kills, three deaths and 25 assists.

JD Gaming recorded three straight wins on blue, finishing in 29, 26 and 21 minutes. Taiwan’s Yu “JunJia” Chun-chia led the way with a 13-3-13 KDA ratio.

The group stage ends Friday with two matches:
–G2 Esports vs. FEARX (Group A lower-bracket final)
–JD Gaming vs. LYON (Group B lower-bracket final)
