LOL: FlyQuest stays hot as LAT Cross-Conference opens

Six days after playing their way into the League of the Americas Championship of The Americas Cross-Conference tournament, FlyQuest showed no signs of rust in sweeping their quarterfinal Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

100 Thieves, who advanced to the tournament two weekends ago, also won its first match by a 2-0 score, setting up a showdown with FlyQuest on Feb. 22.

The $40,000 LAT Cross-Conference tournament is the first League of Legends League of The Americas Cross-Conference event of the year. Eight teams play in a single-elimination bracket, with the first two quarterfinals played Saturday and the other two scheduled for Sunday.

The semifinals take place Feb. 22 with the grand final the following day. The prize money is split among the second- through fourth-place teams, with the runner-up getting $20,000 and the third- and fourth-place teams getting $10,000 each. The winner qualifies for the First Stand tournament in March.

On Saturday, 100 Thieves opened play with 32- and 39-minute wins against paiN Gaming, with 100 Thieves winning both maps on blue. 100 Thieves was led by MVP Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung of South Korea. Quid posted a 10-5-18 kill/death/assist ratio. Brazilian Alexandre “TitaN” Lima led paiN with a 9/10/11 KDA.

In the second quarterfinal, FlyQuest played on red for both matches, beating Leviatan each time in 35 minutes. MVP Kacper “Inspired” Sloma of Poland posted only seven kills for FlyQuest but had no deaths and a whopping 29 assists. Artur “scary” Queiroz of Brazil paced Leviatan in the loss with a 8/7/9 KDA.
