Phil Foden’s second-minute strike sparked Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Morocco’s Wydad AC in the Club World Cup opener for both teams on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

The Premier League powerhouse added a goal by Jeremy Doku in the 42nd minute off a corner kick from Foden.

Foden converted from inside the box for the fastest goal in Club World Cup history. His left-footed shot came after Wydad goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid blocked a shot by Savinho directly into Foden’s path.

It was the first goal in 20 matches for club and country for the 25-year-old English midfielder.

Before the break, Foden’s corner kick found Doku’s right foot for a close-range goal to double the Manchester City advantage.

Man City will face Al Ain on Sunday in Atlanta, while Wydad will remain in Philadelphia to face Juventus on Sunday.

Manchester City will be without defender Rico Lewis, who drew a red card in the 88th minute.
