FURIA took down The MongolZ on the winner-take-all fifth map of Sunday’s grand final to win the $500,000 Global Offensive FISSURE Playground No. 2 event in Belgrade, Serbia.

FURIA’s 3-2 victory netted the team $200,000 for first place. The MongolZ, whose roster hails entirely from Mongolia, settled for $100,000 as runners-up.

FURIA went 3-1 in the 16-team Swiss stage, falling only to top seed Aurora Gaming in a Round 3 High match before clinching their playoff berth the next day.

After sweeping Astralis and Team Falcons 2-0 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, FURIA met The MongolZ, who pulled out 2-1 victories in each of the first two rounds to make it this far.

FURIA opened the grand final with a 16-13 overtime win on Mirage, but The MongolZ countered 13-11 on Inferno. FURIA again needed overtime to prevail 16-12 on Nuke, and The MongolZ pushed it to a fifth map by taking Overpass 13-9.

The final map was Dust II, and FURIA trailed 3-1 before racing past The MongolZ for a 13-5 clinching victory.

Danil “molodoy” Golubenko of Kazakhstan posted 99 kills on a plus-28 kills-to-deaths differential for FURIA and was named tournament MVP. His teammate, Latvian Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis, was also impressive with 97 kills and a plus-16 K-D. The MongolZ were led by Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch with 89 kills and a plus-8.

Sixteen teams started the event on Sept. 12 in a Swiss stage format, with the top eight advancing to the single-elimination playoffs. The quarterfinals and semifinals Friday and Saturday were best-of-three, with Sunday’s grand final being best-of-five.
