Britain’s Excel Esports and Spain’s Giants Gaming announced a planned merger Thursday to form GIANTX.
The joint venture will field teams in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) and Valorant Champions Tour, among others.
GIANTX will be led by current Excel CEO Tim Reichert and Giants founder and CEO Jose Diaz, who will serve as co-CEOs.
“The merger and establishment of GIANTX represents a pivotal and noteworthy chapter in the history of EXCEL ESPORTS, and we are thrilled to be joining one of Spain’s leading esports organisations, Giants Gaming,” Reichert said in a news release. “Through bringing together the two brands, each having cultivated passionate and distinct audiences, we are excited about presenting a fresh and compelling vision for the future.”
Reichert said the plan for GIANT X is “to emerge as a formidable new force in European esports.”
“Launching GIANTX represents an extraordinary opportunity,” Diaz said in a release. “After multiple achievements and years of leadership in the industry, where Giants has become one of the major references in the Spanish-speaking market, it’s time to evolve and take a new leap.
