ATP: Zhizhen Zhang upends Lorenzo Sonego in Eastbourne

Unseeded Zhizhen Zhang of China upset seventh-seeded Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Tuesday in the first round of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, Great Britain.

It was the first tour-level grass-court victory for the World No. 54 Zhang, who saved three set points on serve in the first set en route to winning the match in one hour, 59 minutes.

Zhang advanced to face Maxime Cressy, who secured a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan.

Also Tuesday, unseeded Mikael Ymer of Sweden overcame a first-set setback to post a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over ninth-seeded Botic van de Zandschulp pf the Netherlands.

Mackenzie McDonald recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Italian Marco Cecchinato, and Great Britain’s Liam Broady seized a 6-3, 6-4 win over compatriot Jan Choinski in other action.
