The American team cruised in Saturday’s two matches to defeat Colombia in a Davis Cup qualifying match in Reno, Nev.

The U.S. doubles team of Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock defeated Colombians Nicolas Barrientos and Juan-Sebastian Cabal 6-3, 6-4 to give the Americans a 3-0 lead. Tommy Paul finished off the clincher with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over Nicolas Mejia in the reverse singles match.

France also swept its qualifier against Ecuador, as did the Netherlands over Canada and Argentina over Czech Republic.

Spain defeated Romania 3-1, Belgium topped Finland 3-2, Germany beat Brazil 3-1, Italy toppled Slovakia 3-2, Australia edged Hungary 3-2, Kazakhstan defeated Norway 3-1, Sweden got by Japan 3-2, and Korea beat Austria 3-1.

The 12 teams that won their qualifying series advance to the Davis Cup group stage in mid-September, joining 2021 runner-up Croatia plus wild-card invitees Great Britain and Serbia.

Russia would have advanced automatically as the 2021 champion, but the country has been barred from national competitions by the International Tennis Federation. Davis Cup officials plan to add a replacement for Russia.
