Slovakian tennis player Andrej Martin received a 14-month suspension Thursday for failing a doping test, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Thursday.
Martin, 33, tested positive for the anabolic agent SARM S-22 at the Bratislava Open in June. The ban initially was reduced from four years after an independent tribunal said that the offense was unintentional.
“The player asserted that he had played in a floorball tournament … and that the presence of the substance was caused by mistakenly drinking from a teammate’s water bottle, identical in appearance to his own,” ITIA said in a statement.
“Martin’s floorball teammate admitted that he added ostarine drops to his water bottle. The independent tribunal considered Martin’s statement to be plausible.”
Martin previously rose to a career-best ATP singles ranking of 93 in 2020. His ban will conclude on June 5, 2024.
