The American Hockey League canceled the 2022 All-Star Classic on Wednesday due to the ongoing pandemic.
The events had been scheduled for Feb. 6-7 in Laval, Quebec. It is the second straight year the festivities have been called off due to the COVID-19 crisis.
“The Laval Rocket and Place Bell have done an outstanding job preparing to host our All-Star Classic festivities this year,” AHL president and CEO Scott Howson said in a news release. “But with the event only six weeks away and faced with ongoing challenges pertaining to health and safety, international travel, and group gatherings, the League and the Rocket organization feel it is in everybody’s best interests to postpone the event. We remain committed to bringing the All-Star Classic to Laval in the future.”
With 26 teams in the United States and five in Canada, the AHL serves as the primary developmental circuit for the National Hockey League.
