The Seattle Mariners promoted Justin Hollander to executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations on Sunday.

Hollander will report to president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto, who made the announcement two days after the Mariners clinched their first playoff berth since 2001.

Hollander is in his sixth season with Seattle, his third since being promoted to vice president and assistant GM on Jan. 30, 2020.

“Justin has been an integral part of our Baseball Ops leadership group and a wonderful partner to me throughout our time together,” Dipoto said. “His passion, intelligence, people skills and creativity show up every day. Moving forward, the Mariners are simply a better organization with Justin in this role.”

Before joining the Mariners as director of baseball operations in September 2016, Hollander spent nine seasons in the front office of the Los Angeles Angels.

He becomes the 10th general manager in Mariners history.

Dipoto was promoted to president of baseball operations in September 2021 after six seasons as the GM.
