The New York Mets officially activated right-hander Max Scherzer from the 15-day injured list Monday, while fellow right-hander Tylor Megill was activated from the 60-day IL.

To make room on the active roster, right-hander Stephen Nogosek and left-hander Alex Claudio were optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Scherzer, who is 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA over 20 starts, has been sidelined since Sept. 4 with left oblique irritation. Scheduled to start Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the 38-year-old made a rehab start at Syracuse on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts.

“My overall command wasn’t quite as sharp, but you kind of know that when you skip a start,” Scherzer said. “The shape of all the pitches are there, but some of the executions are just not quite as crisp as they need to be. But that’s just what happens when you skip starts.”

Scherzer is 3-2 with a 2.56 ERA in his last seven major league starts. He allowed one run on three hits in five innings in his last start prior to going on the IL but did not get a decision in a 7-1 loss to the Washington Nationals.

A three-time Cy Young Award winner, Scherzer is 199-101 with a 3.11 ERA in 427 appearances (418 starts) over 15 seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Mets.

Megill, 27, has been out since June with a right shoulder strain. He is 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA in nine starts this season and is 8-8 with a 4.67 ERA in 27 starts over the past two seasons for the Mets.

Nogosek, 27, is 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 relief appearances this season, while Claudio, 30, has not allowed a run in three relief appearances with New York this season.
