The Washington Commanders’ initial 53-man roster includes rookie running back Brian Robinson, who was shot multiple times in an apparent robbery attempt Sunday.

Robinson, 23, was released from the hospital Monday night and met with team doctors on Tuesday.

The Commanders cut 25 players and placed three others on injured reserve Tuesday to get down to the required 53 players, and Robinson’s name was not on the list. Fellow running backs Jaret Patterson and Reggie Bonnafon were among those released.

Robinson was rushed to a Washington, D.C., hospital Sunday night and underwent surgery after being shot, reportedly in the glute and lower leg.

Commanders coach Ron Rivera told reporters on Monday that there is no timeline for Robinson’s return.

A third-round pick this spring, Robinson rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown in the preseason, adding two catches for 15 yards.

As a senior at Alabama in 2021, Robinson rushed for 1,343 yards with 14 touchdowns for the national title runners-up.
